Release Your Stress and Fear: Time to Grow!

We are facing a season of raised stress, fear as well as being inundated with triggers and alarming news that just cue people to be reactive, stressful and fearful of practically every scenario depicted by the media outlets, either by radio, tv, websites or social media platforms.

This kind of scenario is more harmful than the Corona virus itself, it is known by many dedicated specific sites that are trustable sources of the scientific information on how to protect, how can you really become infected (CDC and OMS).

Nevertheless, many information is just spreading news about rates of disease, rate of deaths, when in fact there are many diseases that are already causing more deaths than the virus, and that as well as the virus they become spread just as readily and easily.

Those are panic, anxiety and depression all of them being sky rocketed due to the fact that many people let their lives be guided by alarming news, becoming completely disempower, lowering and depressing their immune system, raising hormones of fear and stress and of course not trusting their healing innate abilities anymore (1).

Letting an idea that a virus that has been causing flu or common cold cases for several years will be able to make them ill and probably even cause them more implication leading to dead! Something that’s completely not true!

Cases of people that have become infected with the virus and have been having complications and unfortunately have passed away, are people that have one, two or more underlying factor such as: hypertension, diabetes, a disease that might be already depressing their immune system! And it is slightly more harmful for older people depending of course to their immune system health and status.

As now it has been reported by Zhu et al., that they have identified and characterized 2019-nCoV. The viral genome has been sequenced, and these results in conjunction with other reports show that it is 75 to 80% identical to the SARS-CoV and even more closely related to several bat coronaviruses (2).

Identification of the virus will allow the development of reagents to address key unknowns about this new coronavirus infection and guide the development of antiviral therapies (2).

It appears that 2019-nCoV uses the same cellular receptor as SARS-CoV (human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 [hACE2]), so transmission is expected only after signs of lower respiratory tract disease develop (2).

A striking feature of the SARS epidemic was that fear played a major role in the economic and social consequences. Although specific anticoronaviral therapies are still in development, we now know much more about how to control such infections in the community and hospitals, which should alleviate some of this fear. Transmission of 2019-nCoV probably occurs by means of large droplets and contact and less so by means of aerosols and fomites, on the basis of our experience with SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV.4,5 Public health measures, including quarantining in the community as well as timely diagnosis and strict adherence to universal precautions in health care settings, were critical in controlling SARS and MERS. Institution of similar measures will be important and, it is hoped, successful in reducing the transmission of 2019-nCoV (2).

As mentioned by one of the most recent articles of research from a trusted source (New England Journal of Medicine), the virus has been completely sequenced, it is jus a matter of one or two months to start assessing and finding how to counteract the spread of the virus as well as its mitigation.

As it was highlighted by researchers, what made the epidemic of SARS to be worse than it was expected was all the fear and panic raised by media, false information and alarming news.

We are a different society that can learn from past mistakes and don't let the panic and fear again depress more and more our immune systems, why? Simply because those two factors are key to allow your infection of the virus or any other disease.

What we can do different this time is to create a more awakened society that instead of joining the masses with fear and anxiety, creates a culture of self-care, self-healing and trusting that our immunity is stronger than this kind of virus.

It shouldn't be a surprise for any of us that this kind of epidemic viruses are being encouraged many times, or they develop, it is just a way in which nature defends itself from the invasion that we have done to many of their habitats. It is also a natural way to balance the evolution and population, which we have been also very reckless to keep growing in number, without being even able to care more for our home.

I bet that now that we are facing this kind of epidemic, you really cherish and are grateful for the roof that you have to be safe, you're grateful that you can buy provisions and be at your place. But, just a question to ponder in your mind, why you haven't been conscious about your planet? Which is your home too? Can you imagine that if we keep being so selfish and reckless, it is just a matter of years that we will be facing more epidemics, worst climate changes, and so on ...?

In this moments where media wants you to be more in a fight or flight response, activating your sympathetic nervous system, raising cortisol levels, releasing more adrenaline and noradrenaline, and damaging your body to become easy to fool with news, you are being given the chance to control your mind, to allow your thoughts to be focused on healing, on being more mindful, strengthening your immune system, practicing meditation, allowing peace of mind.

Moreover, if we get to the next stage of being more at home, you're also going to be able to have more time to interact with your family, reflect and do other type of things, which probably you were not able to do by being always in a rush.

It is a time for adaptation, for reflection, to feel empower that we can shift what is happening with us and our close surroundings.

  • Older adults

People who have serious chronic medical conditions like:

  • Heart disease

  • Diabetes

  • Lung disease

Watch for symptoms and emergency warning signs:

  • Pay attention for potential COVID-19 symptoms including, fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you feel like you are developing symptoms, call your doctor.

  • If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. In adults, emergency warning signs*:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath;

  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest;

  • New confusion or inability to arouse (stand up);

  • Bluish lips or face.

What Others can do to Support Older Adults?

Family and Caregiver Support.

  • Know what medications your loved one is taking and see if you can help them have extra on hand;

  • Monitor food and other medical supplies (oxygen, incontinence, dialysis, wound care) needed and create a back-up plan.

  • Stock up on non-perishable food items to have on hand in your home to minimize trips to stores.

  • If you care for a loved one living in a care facility, monitor the situation, ask about the health of the other residents frequently and know the protocol if there is an outbreak.

Let's understand how fear and stress can lead us to a more challenging situation?

First of all, let's be clear that fear and stress are responses that we control, that are created by the kind of thoughts that we allow, therefore creating those kind of emotions will not only made you feel more reactive, they will also most likely lead you to shut down essential functions, such as your digestive abilities, your cognitive skills, shutting down your prefrontal cortex and becoming more prone to take wrong decisions, to precipitate in what you say or do, become oblivious of many of your inner abilities that you should be able to use in terms of a challenging situation and probably create more internal problems or bad mood if the level of measures start being more privative in terms of your freedom to be outside.

Substances that area produced by fear and stress many times also increase inflammation, which we know is one of the worst predictors to become ill, to also start turning on some epigenetic mechanisms that could lead you to wake up some defective proteins, which in turn will do a poor job in all of your essential functions, such as your respiratory skills, your blood circulation, the oxygenation of all of your tissues and brain, your ability to repair wounds and detoxify your system, as well as lowering your ability to sleep well.

So, nobody wins with that kind of scenario, and you're stressed people around you will certainly be stressed as well. Creating this kind of toxic cycles is just a very poor strategy in terms of taking care of you and your community.

The other scenario that you can start creating is allowing yourself to have a set of rituals and practices to encourage, promote and maintain your health at all levels.

  • Put your body in motion, use technology in your favor, there are many videos to perform routines of exercise indoors, which will boost your immunity, get rid of toxins being created by stress and fear, activate the release of your healing pharmacy such as dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, BDNF for your brain and neural circuits, and will allow you to be in a better mood;

  • Journal some of your challenging thoughts in regards to your emotions and how are you feeling inside, if you have time start doing a deep cleaning of your emotional system and letting go also past hurts, embrace forgiveness to release your burden that you have been carrying and become lighter!;

  • Look for healing meditations, empower your mental clarity, allow yourself to develop the habit of doing it in a comfortable pace and once this given time finishes, then you'll be able to continue with the habit! Reflect about your life, are you comfortable with your decisions, with your activities, relationships, is time to make amendments and really notice who are the people that you have not seen in a long time, make a call to see how they are, clean your social circle! Connect with your heart, create coherence, build a magnetic field the protects you and the ones around you! You can even organize a group meditation through the streaming services with your family and raise the energy of your loved ones! And why not of all humans that share with you this physical experience, joining forces to create a powerful magnetic field can even accelerate the recovery of this epidemic situation!;

  • Feel gratitude for what you have, now is a perfect time to activate that divine gift that we have, It is also time to ask yourself if your path is the one that you wanted, if you want to switch career or start doing on the side something to become independent or to have an investment, or simply to do what you've always wanted to do but you didn't have time, journal how you want your future to unfold, start visualizing what you want in your life and not what is being given to you but you don't really enjoy doing!

If you really want to use this experience to grow there are a million ways to do it, if you really want to use this experience to create chaos and disorder is your choice as well!

I humbly trust that if you're reading this, you will be doing the former and expanding, becoming empowered, creating connection, healing yourself, knowing more about you, loving yourself more and the ones around you, you will also have compassion and use your healing energy to benefit all of your energy brothers that inhabit this planet with you and the they are asking for help!

Let's prove that we are a higher species that can learn from failures, that can do things different this time and let's all become empowered that we can Mavericks at any point in our lives!
